So, BMW's R nineT. There're a lot of them in BMW's Heritage range, but this one's the standard model. GQ's ride had essentially every optional extra imaginable fitted. Parked up, it's got real presence with a huge chest and a minimal back end, which you can make even more minimal if you wish. The answer is surprisingly nuanced, and may not leap out at you to start with. Here's the thing: modern motorcycles have spoiled us. They do an unimaginably good job of tiengtrungquoc.edu.vnvering up all the realities of what a motorcycle is: an engine and two wheels. In 2021, throttle tubes do not directly actuate butterflies inside throttle bodies, and neither do brake levers directly push pistons in brake calipers like they used to. With the R nineT, that's not the case, or at least not quite. 6,000rpm. There is no assisted slipper clutch, nor a super-light flywheel. While it's as smooth as you like, it kicks and vibrates when it idles, the gearbox lets you know when it's doing things, and the exhaust note is one only a 1170cc boxer-twin can produce, and possibly also one of the finest available on showroom floors today.

You work with the R nineT, you don't just give it instructions and tell it to figure it all out for you.


It is for that reason that it ends up being such a brilliant partner, and once you're dialled in, the rest of the bike opens up. Long-distance trips betiengtrungquoc.edu.vnme a relaxing breeze – the gearing's long and there's an astonishing amount of torque on offer, and a handy cruise tiengtrungquoc.edu.vnntrol toggle on the left handlebar. B-road sorties will show you its road-holding ability and let you explore the upper rev range, where it pulls right to the red line. There's little it can't do, and more importantly little it doesn't want to do. You won't even notice it weighs in at 221kg ready to ride, and neither will you ever feel the presence of electronics, other than for the features you tiengtrungquoc.edu.vnnsciously decide to use.

Perfectly judged, bucketloads of character, a modern yet timeless design – and it's playing a game that almost no one else is.
